Catherine DeBoer, PsyD., ABPP
For Dr. DeBoer, health psychology is more than a profession—it’s a calling rooted in one guiding question: What helps people living with chronic illness truly feel better— physically and mentally—and how can a psychologist support that journey toward healing and resilience?
That question has shaped her 12+ year career working with adults managing complex health challenges, including chronic pain, fibromyalgia, insomnia, women's health, and obesity. As a Board-Certified Clinical Health Psychologist, Dr. DeBoer combines clinical expertise with genuine compassion, helping clients not only manage their health but also rediscover purpose, balance, and vitality.
Dr. DeBoer’s path began at Virginia Tech, where she studied psychology and nutrition and developed a deep interest in how the mind and body influence one another. She went on to earn her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Regent University and completed a two-year Health Psychology fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center, specializing in behavioral health interventions for women’s health, rheumatic conditions, and providing presurgical evaluations for bariatric surgery.
Drawing from her extensive experience in both individual and group therapy, Dr. DeBoer takes an integrative, evidence-based approach tailored to each client’s unique needs. Her therapeutic methods include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), medical hypnosis, mindfulness, and relaxation training—techniques proven to reduce stress, improve coping, and support lasting behavior change.
At the heart of Dr. DeBoer’s work is the belief that healing goes beyond symptom management. It’s about helping people feel whole again—physically, emotionally, and mentally. Whether you’re coping with a new diagnosis, living with a long-term condition, or feeling overwhelmed by your health journey, Dr. DeBoer offers a compassionate, collaborative space to heal, grow, and move forward with confidence.
My Approach
At the heart of my practice is the belief that meaningful healing begins with a strong therapeutic relationship. I prioritize creating a warm, supportive, and confidential environment where you can feel comfortable bringing your full self into the process—your concerns, strengths, values, and aspirations. My goal is to provide the kind of person-centered attention and thoughtful care that allows genuine growth and lasting change to occur.
As a board-certified health psychologist in McLean, Virginia, I take a collaborative approach to treatment. I recognize that each person's experience with chronic pain, chronic illness, weight concerns, or health-related stress is unique. Rather than relying on one-size-fits-all solutions, we work together to develop strategies tailored to your goals, lifestyle, and priorities. Whether you are seeking relief from chronic pain, greater self-management of a medical condition, sustainable weight loss, or healthier habits that support long-term wellbeing, our work is designed to help you achieve meaningful and lasting results.
My practice integrates evidence-based approaches drawn from health psychology, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness-based interventions, Motivational Interviewing, health behavior change strategies, grief counseling, and clinical hypnosis. These scientifically supported treatments are carefully tailored to help you cultivate resilience, improve emotional wellbeing, and restore a greater sense of balance, vitality, and quality of life.
Through compassionate, expert care and a collaborative partnership, my goal is not simply to help you manage symptoms, but to empower you to live more fully and confidently—so that your health challenges no longer define what is possible for your life.
